A course instructor with the world athletics governing body, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Rotimi Obajimi, said Nigeria's sprinters Olusoji Fasuba and Damola Osayemi are capable of winning medals at the Beijing Olympics to be held in August 2008.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Obajimi said both athletes were currently doing well in their respective events in the athletics circuit, noting that Fasuba and Osayemi were in a different class compared with their compatriots.
Fasuba is the African men's 100 meters record holder while Osayemi is the fastest woman in the continent, as winner of both 100 meters and 200 meters at last July's 9th All Africa Games in Algiers.
Fasuba holds the African record in the 100 meters with a time of 9.85 seconds which he set in 2005 in Doha, Qatar and also won the world indoor 60 meters in Spain in March.
"Olusoji Fasuba looks good to do well at the Olympic Games because of his recent performances in the various competitions," he said.
Fasuba won the world indoor 60 meters winner in Spain in March.
He expressed delight with the way the sprinter was preparing for the Summer Games, describing it as professional.
Obajimi said he expects Fasuba back on the track at the June 23 Abuja Grand Prix and Mobil Track and Field Championships in first week of July.
