Third seed Jelena Jankovic was knock out in the second round of China Open, as she was beaten 6-4, 2-6, 2-6 by fellow Serb Bojana Jovanovski in Beijing on Monday.
"It was a tough game. My opponent played really well. She was very solid off of the baseline, and she really gave me a hard time. She kept returning my shots, and I felt that the court was quite slow, so you had to really play long points," said the 25-year-old, titlist of China Open in 2008.
"I had trouble with my serve. I didn't have a good percentage with my serve, so that as well didn't give me any good."
Jankovic, who reached the third round of U.S. Open last month, sprained her ankle in July, an injury that kept her schedule and training to a minimum this summer.
"Since I got injured in Portoroz, since I twisted my ankle, I haven't found my form. And I'm still trying, you know, to get back to the tennis I would like to play, but I'm still not there, and I just have to work hard and get back to the level I want to be," added the world No. 6.
