Ghost is back for France in World Cup?

France 0:2 Mexico

The ghost of World Cup 2002 is coming back to haunt France as they stare at another embarrassing early exit in the 2010 South Africa World Cup finals.

In South Korea/Japan, Les Bleus entered the tournament as defending champions but bowed out after amassing one point, no goals scored and three goals conceded.

In South Africa, they entered the tournament as runners-up, and they are well on track to replicating their horror show from eight years ago.

After a 0-0 draw against Uruguay to kick-off their 2010 campaign, France showed they still have some fire in their belly with a spirited first half against Mexico.

Yet, constant speculation about disharmony in the squad quickly spurred back on to life as Javier Aguirre's El Tri romped to a deserved 2-0 win.

The French defence was undisciplined and disorderly, starting with sloppy back-passes, to non-existent communication between the back four, to a lack of pressure on their opponents.

All of which allowed the likes of Giovani Dos Santos, Guille Franco, Carlos Salcido and eventually Javi Hernandez plenty of time and space to create havoc.
