Ronaldo, who had 13 shots during the game, finally hit the back of the Tottenham net in the 89th minute of the game to assure the 4-0 win.

Speaking on Spanish television after the game the Portuguese striker insisted his side could not assume they had booked their place in the semi-finals.

"I am happy, we have played well and beating Tottenham 4-0 in quarter-finals is a good result," he said. "We can't underestimate Tottenham in second leg and I have to think there is another important game for us next week, but we are happy with result," commented Ronaldo, who admitted his side had been forced to improve to take such a positive result against a Tottenham side that was forced to play for 75 minutes following the 15th minute sending off of striker Peter Crouch.

"We didn't do so well in first half, but in the second half we moved the ball well in the second period," he said.

Meanwhile Real Madrid Director of Sport, Jorge Valdano was also content with the result.

"It was great performance, Tottenham didn't have change and the result was excellent and well deserved," said Valdano, who was confident his side had booked a place in the last four of the competition.

"The result helps us feel comfortable for the second leg, although we have to serious to the end," he concluded.
