Hannover jumped from fourth to third position after they defeated Freiburg 3-1 thanks to a clinical chance conversion on Thursday's Bundesliga.
Hannover regained third position, a UEFA Champions League qualification spot, to suppress the German record champions Bayern Munich from their minimum aim.
Striker Mohammed Abdellaoue and striker mate Jan Schlaudraff smoothed the way for Hannover before break with a 2-0 lead. 13 minutes into second half defender Konstantin Rausch closed the deal when he headed home the 3-0 lead.
Hannover retracted with the lead behind so that Freiburg utilized the opportunity to score the consolation goal through midfielder Jan Rosenthal. The victory puts Hannover on third position along 57 points whereas Freiburg stay on eighth position with 41 points.
Matches set for Saturday include Schalke vs. Kaiserslautern, Leverkusen vs. Hoffenheim, Stuttgart vs. Hamburg, Frankfurt vs. Bayern, ST. Pauli vs. Bremen and Monchengladbach vs. Dortmund.
