Chinese pair reach last 16 at boxing worlds

China's Zhiavei Zkhang beat Iran's Armin Amjadian to reach last 16 of 56kg category and is to meet Joan Typon from the Philippines on the third day of the AIBA boxing championships, which featured 44 bouts.

Another China's boxer Meng Fanlong defeated Mexican Dario Alfaro with a score of 23-9 in men's 81kg. Fanlong will meet Daugird Seniontas from Lithuania in the next round on October 2.

Monday's 1/32 of the final bouts in the category below 48kg, Chinese Olympic champion Zou Shiming won over Dominican Juan Medina 17-6.

The AIBA world championship takes in 570 participants from 113 countries. The athletes participate in the official ten weight categories in accordance with the AIBA technical and competition rules.

The championships will last until Oct. 10 and have a particular significance as the first major qualifying event for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
