The lead detective in Oscar Pistorius murder investigation was taken off the case on Thursday after it was revealed he is facing attempted murder charges.

Detective Hilton Botha, who has given evidence against the Paralympic and Olympic track star during his bail hearing this week, is due to appear in court in May over charges for opening fire at a minibus containing seven people.

He has been replaced on the case by Lt. Gen. Vinesh Moonoo.

Botha and two other police officers are accused of firing shots while trying to stop a minibus in an incident believed to have happened in October 2011.

Oscar Pistorius stands in the dock during a break in court proceedings at the Pretoria Magistrates court.
