The athletics world was again rocked by a doping scandal when sprinters Asafa Powell of Jamaica and Tyson Gay of the United States recently tested positive for banned substances.

From Ben Johnson to Marion Jones, the world of sprinting has long been blighted by high-profile doping scandals. China.org.cn picks top 5 sprinting doping scandals of all time.

1. Ben Johnson



At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Canadian star Ben Johnson tested positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol a few days after his record-breaking victory in the 100m final. Johnson’s was the first major doping scandal in Olympic history.

Johnson received a two-year suspension before he was subsequently issued a lifetime ban after another positive test in 1993.
