Manchester United reject Chelsea's bid for Wayne Rooney

Manchester United have rejected Chelsea's first bid for Wayne Rooney.

Manchester United have rejected an opening bid from Chelsea for unsettled striker Wayne Rooney, according to reports.

The England forward has grown"angry and confused"at his treatment at Old Trafford after recent comments made by new manager David Moyes.

The Scot said last week: "Overall, my thought on Wayne is that if for any reason we had an injury to Robin van Persie we are going to need him."

Rooney has two years left on his current contract and United are not expected to offer him a new one in the near future.

It is thought a bid of around £25m would persuade United to sell. The precise details of Chelsea's first bid are not yet clear.

Arsenal have also enquired about Rooney's availability this summer. United may prefer to try to sell Rooney to a foreign club such as Paris St Germain rather than a Premier League rival, although Rooney is adamant Chelsea is where he wants to go.

It is now a question of when Chelsea return with a second bid, and at what value.
