Lleyton Hewitt didn't survive another five-set match. He worked hard, but still not enough to beat Russian talent Mikhail Youzhny at the U.S. Open.
The former world number one was beaten 6-3, 3-6, 6-7 (7-3), 6-4, 7-5 in a round of 16 match, which lasted 3 hours 58 minutes, on Tuesday.
Hewitt had already won a five-set match in the second round by beating the sixth seed Juan Martin Del Potro, and that match lasted even longer, so when the fifth set went to 5-5, Hewitt was the favored one on court, but Youzhny's break changed all.
The 31-year-old Russian earned two straight match points in the final set, and converted the second one into victory.
Youzhny would next face world number one Novak Djokovic.
