Roma have to settle for the second spot in Serie A standings after they were held to a scoreless draw by Cagliari at home on Monday.
Roma, who remain unbeaten this season, went the closest to scoring in the 38th minute when Gervinho saw his effort hit the bar.
Cagliari goalkeeper Vlada Avramov proved to be the final hurdle that the hosts could not clear as he made several saves to deny the Giallorossi three points.
Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi conceded that Roma could not complain about the draw.
"We created so many chances, but you can see that there are no problems from an offensive point of view," he said.
"We tried right until the final whistle. We can't complain though, and we're six points ahead of fourth place, and the goal has always been the Champions League," he said.
Cagliari head coach Diego Lopez said he was happy with the point his team got at Stadio Olimpico against Roma.
"We faced a great team and we're happy with the point," he sadi.
"We came here knowing that we would have to sacrifice ourselves and we did that," he said.
The result, Roma's third straight draw, has left them unbeaten but second in the standings with 33 points. Juventus are one point clear of the Romans at the top of the table after beating Livorno on Sunday.
