Monfils upsets Dimitrov for US Open last 8 berth

 Frenchman Gael Monfils extended his untroubled march into the US Open quarter-finals by taming seventh-seed Grigor Dimitrov 7-5 7-6(6) 7-5 to reach the last eight without dropping a set.

The 28-year-old Frenchman Gael Monfils beat seventh-seeded Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria 7-5, 7-6(6), 7-5 to book a U.S. Open quarterfinal berth on Tuesday.

It was the first time for Monfils, who also made into French Open last eight earlier this year, to reach two Grand Slams quarterfinals in the same year.

Monfils has beaten Top 10 player for the third time this year after Tuesday's victory.

Monfils is to meet second seed Roger Federer from Switzerland in the quarterfinals.
