Bayern Munich cruised to a 4-0 over front-runners Paderborn whereas Schalke reaped their first win of the season in Bremen, at the opener of the fifth round in Bundesliga on Tuesday.
Newly promoted front-runners Paderborn were unable to provide a surprise as Bayern Munich's Mario Goetze donated a brace to smooth the 4-0 win for the German giants on home soil. Thus Bayern Munich took over the lead in the Bundesliga standings.
Paderborn were only able to keep the pace in the opening period as Elias Kachunga pulled wide with a sideways scissor-kick. However, the Bavarians needed only eight minutes to break the deadlock when Mario Goetze utilized a square pass by Thomas Mueller inside the box to slot home into the near post corner.
Paderborn was awestruck and suffered the second goal of the game only six minutes later through Robert Lewandowski, who netted his second goal of the season with a long-range effort.
Paderborn's Idir Ouali had the best chance for the hosts when he had only Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to beat. Yet the midfielder shot into the arms of Manuel Neuer to squander the best chance in the 24th minute.
Bayern controlled the proceedings on the pitch after all the spectators at the Allianz Arena had to wait until 78th minute before Mario Goetze sealed his brace with a poacher's goal. The hosts were not done with the scoring as Thomas Mueller extended the lead to kill the game with five minutes remaining.
Schalke secured their first win of the season as three second half goals were enough to snatch three-points at Bremen.Both sides staged an unattractive first half with many fouls and only a few opportunities. Therefore the supporters had to wait until the restart when youngster Max Meyer had all time and space to slot home from the edge of the box at the 48th minute.
The visitors doubled the lead against Bremen as Roman Neustaedter headed home a corner by Christian Fuchs three minutes later. Bremen pressed frenetically to get one back but Schalke's Tranquillo Barnetta put the result beyond doubt when he finished a counter attack to make it 3-0 on the scoreboards.
Elsewhere, Mainz gave away a two-goal lead to share the spoils with Frankfurt at the "Rhine-Main derby". Jonas Hoffmann and Shinji Okazaki established Mainz' 2-0 lead before Frankfurt's Alexander Meier and Haris Seferovic restored parity to force a share of the spoils.
Hoffenheim came back twice against ten-men Freiburg to rescue one point following a 3-3 drawat the Southern derby. Hoffenheim's Jannik Vestergaard ensured the draw in the dying minutes of the game.
The following games are scheduled for Wednesday: Dortmund host Stuttgart, Leverkusen encounter Augsburg, Monchengladbach see Hamburg, Hannover face newly promoted Cologne and Berlin meet Wolfsburg.
