The Australian Open champions and top seeds beat the combination of compatriot Li Na and US player Bethanie Mattek, 6-4 / 6-2, to reach the semi-finals.

Sun Tiantian, the only Chinese player in the singles has fallen out of the competition after a second round loss 6-3 / 6-2 to 3rd seeded Catalina Castano of Colombia.
