World number one player Zhang Yining suffered unexpected losses
in the women's competition at the table tennis China Super
League.
The world and Olympic champion of the Beijing club lost both her
matches against Jiangsu in the sixth round.
Zhang, losing the first match 3-1 to Li Xiaoxia, suffered her
second defeat in a five-set thriller against Zhang Xiaowu.
She squandered a two-set lead to lose the match 4-11, 4-11,
11-8, 11-4 and 11-9.
Rising star Guo Yan gained two points for Beijing in singles and
doubles respectively.
But the two wins were not enough to prevent the team from losing
3-2 after Fan Ying beat Ding Ning to win the series for
Jiangsu.
The defeat at home ended Beijing's five-round winning
streak.
