Vice team manager Liu Qinlong of Chinese women water polo team set up a top four finish as their FINA World Championships ultimate goal.

But Liu said his team should first overcome Italy, their strongest rivals in the Group.

“After being polished by several big events, we have grown up a lot. When encountered with plight, we know right now to deal with it in a better way,” said Liu.

In the World Women's Water Polo League Finals Chinese girls were defeated by the Italian team, who came back from behind in the last period in the semifinal.

“Facing with their strong defensive end, we were flurried and didn’t make any adjustment in time. Everything was in a big mess,” Liu recalled the bitter lose.

“Italy and us are in the same group group this time, and we are ready,”said Liu.

The group also includes Cuba and South Africa.

“Our priority is trying to beat South Africa. China and Italy are too strong. They are in a higher level.”Cuban head coach Veitia said.

“The Chinese team have improved a lot in the past 5 years. They did a good job in the use of the ball and their players had a decent physical condition. They are very strong.”

The women’s water polo competition will kick off on Sunday with China taking on South Africa.
