Shonda Rhimes is the first African American to create and executive produce a one-hour TV show, Grey’s Anatomy, that has aired more than one season. Her three other current ABC projects are Private Practice, Gilded Lillys and Scandal. After a childhood habit of tape-recording and transcribing her own stories, Rhimes surged to prominence after screenwriting the 1999 HBO movie Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, which earned Halle Berry Emmy and Golden Globe best actress awards.
