Mine Production 2010: 231 tonnes
The United States was the world's 3rd biggest gold producer in 2011. The country produced 237 tonnes of gold in 2011, marking both a 2.6 percent increase compared to 2010 and an increase for the second consecutive year. Increased production from restarted mines in Montana and Nevada and from existing mines in Nevada were the principal reasons for the increase, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The country's gold mining is largely concentrated in the states of Nevada, Alaska, Utah, and Colorado. Nevada is the biggest gold producing state, accounting for about 75 percent of the country's total output of the precious metal. The state is home to some of the most important gold mines, including Carlin-Nevada Complex, Goldstrike (Betze Post) Gold Mine and Cortez Gold Mine.
