Jiangsu Shagang Group was founded in 1975 in Zhangjiagang City, Jiangsu Province. After nearly 40 years of development, the group has become China's largest private steel corporation. Presently, Shagang boasts more than 40,000 employees, and its total assets reached more than 170 billion yuan (US$27 billion). The annual production capacity of Shagang is more than 29 million tons of iron, 35 million tons of steel and 33 million tons of coiled metal products. In 2011, the company reported 207.5 billion yuan (US$32.9 billion) in revenue and 3.5 billion yuan (US$555.6 million) in net profits. In 2012, Shagang ranked 44th among the top 500 Chinese companies and 346th among Fortune's Global 500.
