The Ancient Town of Dunhuang, covering an area of 12,700 square meters, is a movie set located about 25 kilometers southwest of Dunhuang. Constructed with Japanese investment in 1987, it was designed for the shooting of a historical film named Dunhuang. The complex was built to resemble Song Dynasty (960-1279) architecture and to reproduce the layout and construction of the famous scroll painting "Qing Ming Shang He Tu (Outing at Bian River on Qingming Festival)."
