With its diversified vegetation and clearly distinguished vertical zones, the reserve is a special conservation spot for vegetation within the mid sub-tropic alpine region of western China. Fanjingshan is not only abundant in rare bio-resources, but also is one of the most famous mountains for Buddhists. More interestingly, a rainbow "Buddhist Halo" often appears near the Hongyun Summit of Mt. Fanjingshan, which is regarded as an auspicious sign.
