The beds use Pascal power springs, the thinnest springs in the industry, to support peoples' backbones properly so as to keep them comfortable and enable them to sleep well. This brand is the choice of European royal families and celebrities, including Madonna, Tiger Woods and David Beckham. And all the beds in the seven-star Yacht Hotel in Dubai are Duxiana." I tried sitting and stretching out on the beds, but to me they only felt somewhat softer than other, less swanky versions. Perhaps you need to actually take a long nap in one to experience the full function of Duxiana's magical springs.

Other bed accoutrements, such as pillows, bed sheets and quilt covers, were also available for similarly astronomical prices. At Duxiana, one can drop thousands of yuan on a pillow with springs inside (more comfortable than it sounds). By the window, a classical (not cheap) Jetson chair designed in the 1960s by Bruno Mathsson resembled a massage armchair with a headrest. Its entire weight was borne by a steel ring foundation.

As I was leaving, wallet intact, a family with a little boy came inside and asked about bed prices. None of them batted an eye when quoted the 50,000 RMB that had nearly knocked me over, and the saleswoman's pitch that "the bed can be used for your whole life or handed down to the next generation" actually worked on the little kid, who piped, "Let uncle buy that one!" Considering that people spend a third of their lives in bed, sleeping in a bed of Duxiana's standards might not be a bad idea, as long as you can get past the sticker shock.
