The 2010 China Jiaxing Dragon Boat Folk Culture Festival will run from June 13-17 in Jiaxing, eastern Zhejiang province.

It will feature a rich variety of tourist and folk culture activities, including ceremonies, gala shows, street parades, dragon boat races, foods and local specialty fairs, art exhibitions, festive souvenir design contests, and academic workshops, organizers say.

The traditional Duanwu, or Dragon Boat Festival, is believed to have a history of some 2,000 years.

More than 30 ethnic groups from across China celebrate the festival on May 5 each lunar year but in different ways, according to Qi Qingfu, a folk culture researcher with the Ministry of Culture.
