Xijiang Miao Village

Located 35 kilometers northeast of Leishan county in Guizhou Province, Xijiang is the largest Miao village in China. There are 1,000 households in the village. Researchers call it a living fossil because it is a good place to learn the history and traditional culture of the Miao People.

Set on two large slopes covered by wooden houses, the houses in the village are so tightly packed along the slopes. Cobblestone paths wind through the village, which connect every house.

The village is the center for grand festivals of Miao People in the area. Grand festivals in the village include Lusheng Festival, the New Year Festival, and the harvest celebration, during which the Miao People worship their ancestors and celebrate the autumn harvest.
