Most people know Benxi for it's nickname, the "city of coal and iron." Famous for its charred coal, low phosphate iron and special steel, Benxi is an old industrial base that has made invaluable contributions to China's development.

However, Benxi not only has rich industrial resources, but also spectacular scenery, especially in autumn.

Unlike autumn in southern China where you can still see greenery even in the early winter, Benxi, located in Liaodong Peninsula, shows its autumn red leaves starting in mid-August.

Here, the unique autumn activities of northern China that have been practiced since ancient times are still a vibrant part of the season, while the modern, fast-paced life of other cities is phasing out traditional activities. Families gather together on the First Day of Autumn (according to the lunar calendar) and eat dumplings. Children play with the leaf stalks they find on the road after school. Elders warm the brick bed and invite their children who have moved to high buildings to come back and enjoy happy times with the whole family.

Autumn in Benxi provides you with the traditional experience of the Benxi people, and a gorgeous seasonal landscape as well.
