The St. Regis Lhasa Resort, the first international luxury hotel in the capital of Tibet, has now opened up for business.
The 32,000-square-meter hotel, which is owned by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, uses solar and geothermal energy to reduce its dependence on diesel.
Local authorities in Lhasa also say Shangri-La and InterContinental brand hotels will also be built in the city this year in a bid to boost local tourism.
For the first nine months of the year, Tibet has played host to some 5.8 million tourists, an increase of 22 percent year on year.
