According to figures released by the Xi'an Tourism Administration, the capital of Shaan'xi province received more than 48 million tourists from home and abroad in the first 10 months of 2010, exceeding the full-year figure of 40 million for 2009.
In the period from January to October, visitor arrivals from overseas markets rose 22.24% year on year to 673,948; while the number of domestic visitor arrivals rose 34.26% to 47.76 million. Tourism revenue rose 36.55% to CNY36.6 billion.
The administration said that Xi'an's annual visitor arrivals are expected to exceed 50 million for the first time ever, thanks to a series of tourism promotions in Southeast Asian nations and promotions of the Terra-Cotta Warriors in Shanghai, the country's financial hub.
In 2010, flights linking Xi'an with Seoul, Taipei, Singapore were launched to boost the aviation travel market. In the meantime, the opening of new attractions such as Tang King Market, the tomb of the second Qin emperor, and the Da Ming Palace National Heritage Park have helped attract more visitors.
