Santa Claus, impersonated by a Finn in his sixties, arrived at the capital airport on December 18 last Saturday to guest star in a Chinese Christmas fest in Mohe, the northernmost village of the nation.
He was welcomed by fellow performers dressed up as the seven dwarfs and the princess Snow White as well as a delegation of reporters who will be the first visitors to experience the Christmas-themed Chinese arctic village.
The entertainment project, covering more than one million square meters, started construction in late September. It was designed by a British institute and features a Santa Claus house, an arctic-style souvenir shop and post office, with the whole village decked out with illuminated Christmas trees.
The Christmas village is a key project for Mohe, the village in Heilongjiang province bordering Russia, to promote its winter tourism. It aims to introduce European festive atmosphere to tourists and visitors during the upcoming Christmas holiday.
