With Xinjiang Mifu (The Code of Xinjiang), the first in Kun Shi's mystery novel series Dakunlun, published last week in Beijing, a new expedition tour based on the storyline was also launched, with the aim of discovering the "mystery" of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

Initiated by the author in conjunction with his publishing house and China Youth Travel Services (CYTS), the tour will be open to all courageous travelers in China, and the enrolling process starts from March through sina.com. Meanwhile, organizers will select 10 travelers to participate for free in the expedition in July.

"The expedition will focus on the special routes of Xinjiang, creating the opportunity for travelers to experience real scenes described by the novel Dakunlun," said Liu Guangming, vice president of CYTS.

The novel tells how a linguist named Chu Feng discovers the way to heaven by exploring archeological sites around the Kunlun Mountains, which vividly reveals the geography, archeology and history of that area.

According to the writer, the Taklimakan Desert, the Lop Nur and the site of ancient city of Loulan will all be part of the expedition.

"The historical materials in my novel are 80 percent true [and] only the plot is created by me," said Kun.

In the ancient legends of China, the Kunlun Mountains were regarded as China's Olympus, the home of the gods. The mythology of Kunlun is one of the sources of Chinese civilization, as well as a potent symbol of Chinese ancient culture.
