The nation's largest and only curated orchid exhibition opened on Saturday at the New York Botanical Garden, showcasing more than 5,000 orchid plants in a Broadway-style setting.
"The Orchid Show: On Broadway", which runs through April 25, features the iconic architectural elements of more than 300 types of species and hybrid orchids from Singapore, Brazil and Cuba, leaving many visitors to gasp in amazement and delight.
The setting of the show is designed as a dazzling Broadway theater to present the glamor and allure of the orchids, including an orchid-bedecked stage highlighting the astonishing variety of these plants in colors, shapes and sizes.
"It is exciting to me to design this space in a theatrical way. The flowers are like actors on the stage. I provide the framework for the beauty of them," the garden's award-winning scenic designer Scott Pask told Xinhua.
Built in 1891, the New York Botanical Garden is one of the most prominent facilities of its kind in the country, hosting some of the world's leading plant laboratories. It runs major exhibits and flower shows throughout the year, drawing more than 800,000 visitors annually.
