A ceremony was held in Central China's Henan Province Saturday to commemorate the 2,582th anniversary of the birth of Lao Zi, the founder of Taoism.
More than 3,000 people attended the ceremony in Luyi County, the birthplace of the great philosopher, who advocated achieving harmony between humans and nature.
The ceremony also unveiled a month-long temple fair, which includes a photo exhibition, a contest of reciting Tao Te Ching -- Lao Zi's masterpiece, lectures, a cultural relics display and some other activities.
The local government of Lingbao City plans to develop Hanguguan, believed to be the place where Lao Zi compiled Tao Te Ching, into a tourism area. The project is expected to finish before October.
