The construction of Shanghai Disneyland is scheduled to start on April 8, 2011 a local government official said recently.

U.S.-based Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group Company have sent out invitations to a special event in Shanghai on Friday April 8.

The world's sixth and Asia' 3rd Disney theme park will cover 963 acres, which means it is just one 26th of the size of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Construction will probably take five years and is forecast to cost 24.4 billion yuan. The park is expected to attract 73 million visitors in the first year.
