The 2012 Miss Universe China Pageant application period started on Dec 14 and casting calls will be made in February.

The contest will be held on July 17 in Shanghai, after 30 contestants complete their month-long training. With the theme "celebrating Chinese women", the pageant will be directed by Yue-Sai Kan. The winner of the competition will go on to represent China in the 2012 Miss Universe Pageant.

In 2011, Luo Zilin, China's Miss Universe entrant, was fifth runner-up in the final segment that took place in San Paolo, Brazil. This year, Kan says, she is confident the pageant will be a great success.
