Located northeast of Kaifeng City, Henan Province, Huguo Temple Pagoda (祜国寺塔) was built in 1049 in the Song Dynasty. First called Kaibao Temple Pagoda, its name changed during the Ming Dynasty. The color of the pagoda is similar to iron, so it is also known as Iron Pagoda.

The structure is a 13-story hexagonal tower which stands 55.08 meters high. It has a variety of carvings, including bodhisattvas, Buddhas, dragons, lions and flowers. However, the fourth to thirteenth stories were severely damaged in 1938 by Japanese artillery. The pagoda recovered its original appearance after the establishment of the People's Republic of China.
