Located in Gaocheng Town, Dengfeng City, Stellar Observatory (观星台) was built by Guo Shoujing, an astronomer of Yuan Dynasty, in 1276. The Stellar Observatory is the oldest such observatory in China, and is also one of the most famous examples of astronomical architecture in the world.

The observatory stands 12.62 meters high, and allowed Guo Shoujing to calculate the accurate length of a tropical year. This allowed Chinese scientists to set up a whole new system of exact dates and times, allowing for increasingly accurate recording of history and a sense of continuity throughout the country.
