The Mellow Tones of Liquor Tasting -- Er Guo Tou Museum

Er Guo Tou Museum, covering 3400 square meters, is Beijing's largest liquor museum. The facility is mainly divided into two big sections -- the cultural significance of er guo tou liquor in China and process by which the liquor has been made throughout history. Traditional methods of distilling er guo tou liquor go back more than 800 years. The process is on the national intangible cultural heritage list, making it a specialty of Beijing. People began making er guo tou liquor during the Yuan Dynasty in the northern Shochu area (commonly known as Shaodaozi), but it became famous during Qing Dynasty Emperor Kangxi's reign. "[If] you want to truly taste er guo tou, you must understand its history and craftsmanship," asserts the museum's curator.

In addition to displaying the history, tools, methods and appreciation of the liquor, the museum allows visitors to have a hand in creating their very own er guo tou. Likewise, the outside area is perfect to walk off the drunk.
