My Fair Lady, the Broadway musical based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, will make its debut in China in June. It will be staged at Tianqiao Performing Arts Center from June 9-19 and the tickets are already for sale.
With lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music composed by Frederick Loewe, the musical revolves around Eliza Doolittle, a flower girl, who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins so that she could pass as a lady.
The musical premiered on Broadway in 1956 and won a Tony Award for best musical. The original production was also followed by a London production, an Oscar-winning film made in 1964 and starring Audrey Hepburn, and other adaptations.
Celebrating its 60th birthday this year, the musical will also visit other Chinese cities, including Guangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu and Xiamen.
