Two scenic spots in China become UNESCO Global Geoparks

Eight geological sites around the world, including two in China, have received the UN's official "Global Geopark" label.

UNESCO's updated "Global Geopark" list includes Arxan in Inner Mongolia, as well as Keketuohai in Xinjiang.

The other six sites are located in Mexico, France, South Korea, Spain and Iran.

UNESCO "Global Geoparks" are locations which promote community-led initiatives to enhance sustainable development.

There are now 127 "Geoparks" in 35 different countries.
