Guilin in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has been renowned for centuries for its spectacular scenery. Not only is the local landscape beautiful, the setting is augmented by its long and splendid history.
Situated on the west bank of the Lijiang River, Guilin's beautiful landscape makes the city a popular tourist destination. Guilin also is immersed in history. It dates back over a thousand years to the Tang Dynasty.
Jingjiang King's Palace is one of the most ancient sites in downtown Guilin. The palace was built six hundred years ago. It served as home to fourteen governors of Guilin. A devastating fire leveled the structure during the Qing Dynasty more than 300 years ago. Later, the original site served as a venue where imperial examinations were given.
