No.5: Little Tadpoles Look For Mamma
The water-ink animations of China in the 1950s and 60s were regarded as treasures in the world's animation field. Released in 1961 by Shanghai Animation Film Studio, "Little Tadpoles Look For Mamma", was one of the representative works. It originates from fish and shrimp characters drawn by art maestro Qi Baishi. It creates a delicate and expressive water-ink world against the backdrop of a melodious ancient musical instrument, the lute.
The film has won a number of international laurels, including a honorable prize at the 17th Cannes Film Festival in France, and a Silver Sail Awards for short films at the 14th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.
