All contestants in the first round will play required tunes including a Bach's sonata, a Paganini's caprice and a sonata from Batok or Ysaye.
Sheng Zhongguo, violinist, said, "This competition is a test of the overall skill of the contestants. Classic, romantic, ancient, modern, Chinese or western tunes are all included."
The panel of judges is comprised of eleven established violinists or violin educators from around the world. Among them are Chinese violinists Sheng Zhongguo and Yu Lina. Professor Lin Yaojin from China's Central Conservatory of music is president of the panel.
Qingdao has hosted the National Violin Competition and the Class Verification Test for Violin in recent years. These events are another calling card for the city that has become known for its quality musical entertainment, as well as its beautiful coastal scenery.
