Campers threw the net over the 1 and a half meter alligator. During the action, a man jumped on its back to try and hold it down. The campers then phoned for help from the National Parks and Wildlife Service which sent officers to help subdue the animal.
It's a mystery as to how the alligator ended up in an Australian scout camp, as they are native to Florida in the United States. There are suspicions that it was brought illegally into the country. The alligator was taken to the local zoo at Mogo in New South Wales.
