On one of the main characters, Xiao Qiao, the director said he has his own ideas.
John Woo said, "Xiao Qiao is a pivotal part for the story. Along with Sun Shangxiang. I put more efforts on accentuating these characters. The story of Romance of the Three Kingdoms has been told on the big screen many times. I hope this version delivers a touch of reality for theater-goers. So I took advice from historians and experts and I've learned that the story of 'Zhou Yu thrashing Huang Gai' is omething fictional. Huang Gai wouldn't stand fifty strokes and still continue to fight. That wouldn't be possible because five strokes could beat a person half to death."
Xiao Qiao is played by Taiwan's popular model-turned-actress Chiling Lin, but the character's voice is dubbed by a professional in the second installment. It was Lin who made the suggestion.
Chiling Lin said, "I think we all hope that Xiao Qiao can be one hundred percent perfect. So for her voice, I guess I need more training and practice. It would be better if the role is voiced by someone with a more stable voice. I really feel that's important. Please give me some time. I believe I can be able to portray roles with my own voice some time in the near future."
Jackie Chan were also attended the premiere's news conference and joined cast members in unveiling the film.
