The old Flemish city of Ghent is home to famous catholic churches and a cathedral where Easter is celebrated in the traditional manner. But the region is also famous for world renowned Belgian chocolates as well as local beers and mustard. So the chocolate makers at Yuzu, which is named after a Japanese fruit, give tradition a modern twist by combining all of these elements - beer, mustard, and religion - into an exotic mix of high quality chocolates.
Even without the bizarre chocolate mix, the Yuzu shop window already attracts a lot of attention.
Even without the bizarre chocolate mix, the Yuzu shop window already attracts a lot of attention. It is an original display of the usual Easter fauna of chocolate chickens and rabbits symbolizing spring and renewal.
But a closer look reveals that for Yuzu, making chocolate is an art. None of these eggs come from a factory. And it takes at least 10 minutes to decorate each one.
Yuzu's hallmark is mixing tradition with modernity which is why this year, Yuzu owner Nicolas Varnaise, put ducks in with the other Easter farmyard animals.
