In Southwest China, cold front has swept across most of the region, bringing heavy snowfall as well as sharp temperature drops. Instead of enjoying the blooming flowers or singing birds, residents in those areas are starting the sweet spring with a deep freeze. CCTV reporter Matt Stuttard tells more on how the wild weather is affecting the lives of residents and the pandas in the reserve center there.
Icy roads and plummeting temperatures have been the story of the early spring in Southwest China this year.
Up to 20 centimeters of flurries blanketed Wenchuan County in Sichuan Province.
At the Wolong National Nature Reserve, more than 1200 hectares of bamboo have been destroyed due to the heavy snow.
Li Qingyu, Head of Resources Management Bureau of Wolong National Nature Reserve said "Bamboo should have been plentiful in Spring, but snow and low temperatures have damaged most of it. Pandas then don't have enough to eat."
There are six pandas in the reserve, the snow has increased the difficulty for them to look for food outside.
