In addition to the frozen misery for the animals, residents in Sichuan Province are not enamored with the cold either.

Crops damaged, tents collapsed, and unwelcome power blackout.

Some even have to worry about water shortages.

Ms. Ni, local resident said "Waterpipes are likely to freeze due to the cold weather. In that case, we will have no water to drink."

Despite the wild weather, local transportation in mountainous areas has not been halted.

Drivers are forced to struggle with icy roads as driving conditions remain perilous.

Meanwhile, the cold spell has also gripped Southwest China's Guizhou Province, where some areas have seen a 10 degrees Celsius temperature drop.

The situation is even worse in mountainous areas.

Tan Jian, Deputy Head of Guizhou Meteorological Bureau said "Most parts of the province have experienced freezing temperatures. Some places have even suffered freezing rain.We advise residents to wear more clothes to avoid catching a cold."

Temperatures in Lijiang City, Yunnan Province have also fallen below zero, breaking a ten year record.

Experts say the cold spell is to persist in the next few days, and it will still be some time before local residents enjoy the sunny spring.
