Mother antelopes face many dangers in this harsh environment.

The summer months are especially dangerous.

Antelopes and their new born calves are vulnerable to predators like wolves, bears, and vultures,

Some antelopes have even been known to abandon their calves at the first hint of danger, dooming the new borns to a short life.

A rare species exclusive to Qinghai province in China's northwest, the Tibetan antelope is dubbed the "Fairy on the Plateau".

However, apart from natural predators, Tibetan antelopes also have to worry about poachers, who look to sell exotic animal parts on the international market. Their vulnerable plight has only heightened the urgency to reinforce their protection both in China and abroad.
