Senior Chinese leaders on Friday vowed to work with Cameroon to expand the two nations' cooperation in various areas and advance bilateral relations.
China's top legislator Wu Bangguo and top political advisor Jia Qinglin met in Beijing, separately, with Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, president of the National Assembly of Cameroon (NAC).
"To further promote China-Cameroon friendly cooperation accords with fundamental interests of the two nations and the two peoples," said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature.
Hailing the 38-year diplomatic relations between the two countries, Wu said China and Cameroon had enjoyed healthy and stable growth of bilateral ties, with positive progress in political, economic and cultural cooperation.
"We are satisfied with the China-Cameroon relationship, which has set a good example for South-South cooperation and China-Africa cooperation," he said.
China would work with Cameroon to strengthen friendly exchanges between the two parliaments, governments and political parties, and expand cooperation in infrastructure construction, agriculture, energy resources exploitation and human resources training.
Wu also praised Cameroon's firm support to China on issues concerning China's core interests like national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Jia Qinglin, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, also spoke highly of the China-Cameroon ties when meeting with Cavaye.
China and Cameroon, both as developing nations, enjoyed common task of development, and should especially increase cooperation in coping with challenges of the international financial crisis, Jia noted.
"We value the ties with Cameroon, and is willing to promote pragmatic cooperation in various sectors," he said.
The CPPCC also hoped to advance cooperation with the NAC to contribute to the growth of China-Cameroon ties, he noted.
Cavaye said he was delighted to see China's domestic progress and its important constructive role in the international arena.
Cameroon attached great importance to the relations with China, and hoped to expand bilateral cooperation in all areas, Cavaye said, noting that his parliament would work with China to help push forward bilateral ties.
He reiterated that his country would, as always, firmly adhere to the one-China policy.
Cavaye was in Beijing on an official good-will visit from Dec. 10 to 16 at the invitation of Wu Bangguo.
