A Chinese medical team arrived in Accra on Wednesday to begin their two-year mission of working in the West African country.
The team is the first medical group sent to Ghana by the Chinese government, and it is one of over 40 Chinese medical teams working in African countries.
The six-member medical team, which includes experts in cardiology, anesthesiology, neurology and urology, is the first batch of the 11-member medical team. Its members were selected from hospitals in Guangzhou, capital of the southern Chinese province of Guangdong.
The team was already put together in April 2007, according to an understanding reached between leaders of the two countries, team leader Wei Jianrui said at the airport.
The first Chinese medical team arrived in Africa back in 1960 at the request of the then Algerian government.
