10 injured as gunmen hold polling staff hostage in SW Pakistan

Ten people were injured Wednesday as staff members have been held hostage in a by-election polling station in Jaffarabad, a city in southwest Pakistan's Balochistan, police said.

Clashes occurred between two opposite groups at Noor Pur polling station, injuring several people. One armed group made hostage polling staff and halted polling process, locals said.

Police rushed to the site and brought the situation under control.

The by-election for different seats of provincial and national assemblies are held in different constituencies since Wednesday.

The polling is underway in the cities of Lahore, Jhang, Bahawalnagar and Jaffarabad. Lahore by-polling is contested for the national assembly while the rest are contested for provincial assemblies.
